Larockh Grobot

Larockh Grobot is a series of performances produced from 2006 to 2012, a duet between a performer and an automaton. The robodrummer, initially conceived as an instrument within the Popcore collective, quickly achieved its own autonomy as an artistic project. Citing Chris Cunningham’s Monkey Drummer, anchored in the tradition of Matt Heckert’s machine orchestras, the project quickly developed its own identity and appeared on a wide variety of international stages, integrating video projections and live manipulations.

Rather than opting for an industrial aesthetic, highlighting the technology used and the demonstration of the mechanism, Larockh Grobot seeks instead to present an automaton with its own personality; It is therefore not a simple set of drum actuators, but rather a trashy doll that plays music, more specifically grime, dubstep and dubcore. With a few jam session experiences, having refused an invitation to join another speedcore group, the doll is for the moment sticking mainly to the accompaniment of ultra-low synthesizers.
